Windows vista power option


















The Power options window has three power plans to choose from. The default plan is 'Balanced' which balances the battery life with system performance. The 'Power Saver' plan maximizes the battery life but the performance of your system will be poor. You can also create a new plan from the existing one if you wish.

You can do that by clicking on the link 'Change plan settings' given under each plan. See in the image given above By clicking this link you will be taken to 'Edit Plan Settings' window. This window lets you customize your settings for 'turning off the display' and 'put the computer to sleep 'when system is plugged in and running on then battery.

To create a new power plan, click on the 'Create a power plan' link in the left pane of the window. This link takes you to the Create a Power Plan wizard.

This wizard begins by letting you choose either of the three default power plans which is the nearest to your new settings and then enter a plan name in the 'Plan Name' textbox. Then click on Next and proceed with customizing your settings.

To avoid any other user from using your system when it wakes up, click on the 'Require a password on wakeup' link in the left pane of the window. This would take you to the 'System Settings' window. This window lets you set two sets of power settings. High performance This plan maximizes system performance and responsiveness. Mobile PC users may notice that battery power does not last as long when they use this plan.

You can change settings for any of these plans, or you can create your own plan by using one of these plans as a starting point. On the Select a power plan page, click Create a power plan in the task pane.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. On the Create a power plan page, select the plan that is closest to the type of plan that you want to create. For example, if you want the plan to conserve energy, select the Power saver plan.

In the Plan name box, type a name for the plan, and then click Next. In Change settings , select the display settings and the sleep settings that you want the computer to use when it is running on battery power and when it is plugged in, and then click Create.

If you are using a mobile PC, your plan appears under Plans on the battery meter. If you are using a desktop computer, your plan appears under Preferred plans. Note The plan that you created automatically becomes the active plan. To put a different plan into effect, select that plan on the Power Options page. On the Change settings for the plan page, select the display settings and the sleep settings that you want your computer to use, or click Change advanced power settings to change additional settings.

Click OK , or click Save changes to save the changes. Make sure that the power plan that you want the computer to use is selected on the Power Options page. You can use the Powercfg. The Powercfg. Click the corresponding 'radio button' to select one of these power plans. Power plans can also be selected by clicking the Power icon in the Notification Area of the Task Bar. In the left pane of the window shown above are direct links to commonly useful settings, including for what happens when the computer's display lid is closed.

These settings and others are covered in detail in the remaining sections of this document. To edit one of the default power plans listed above, click the Change plan settings link for that plan.

The Edit Plan Settings window will appear, looking similar to the window below for the Balanced power plan. You can change any of the power setting in this window, or simply review them without making changes. Of the several settings that comprise the power plan, only three are offered in the window above. Many more settings are accessible via the Change advanced power settings link. Power plan settings occur in pairs, as in the window above, consisting of an On battery setting and a Plugged in setting.

This provides great flexibility, allowing you to easily establish exceptions to a given plan. From the window shown above click Change advanced power settings which will open a window similar to the one shown below. To change a setting that is grayed out, click Change settings that are currently unavailable. Most of the advanced settings are described in the following list. But actually this was not what I aimed while trying to turn off my computer by clicking on the power button on the start menu.

So I used the power menu that is displayed by the small arrow button as shown in the screenshot below, and selected the Shut Down menu item to close the computer. To configure the power options of your Windows Vista operating system, you should open the "Control Panel" and select the "System and Maintenance" for further details.

The "Power Options" sub-configuration header is displayed on the panel screen giving clues and hints about the solution for the problem we are dealing with.
