A child is classed as anyone from birth until the end of his or her last year of compulsory education. A child's compulsory schooling finishes on the last Friday in June of the school year in which they have their 16th birthday, not on their 16th birthday. Licences are issued for children and young people who live in the borough of Wigan regardless of where the performance or activity is taking place.
A parent or guardian will need to sign a declaration on the application form to confirm the child is medically fit to take part in the performance or activity. Written permission for any absence must be authorised by the Head Teacher and submitted with the licence application. Children working in entertainment must be accompanied by one of either their parents or an authorised chaperone at all times.
Before the licence is issued, we must be satisfied that arrangements for the supervision and protection of the child are adequate, and that the disruption to the child's education is kept to a minimum. Skip to content Accessibility Audio visual tools Login.
