How to set power scheme on windows xp

We can change the way that our computer uses power. This is useful if we want to conserve energy, prolong the battery life of the portable computer or configure a UPS. We will start by looking at the Power Schemes tab. Here we can configure the computer to turn off the monitor or hard disks when the computer has been idle for a while. We can edit the scheme to further conserve power.

If we are doing a presentation, we should change to the Presentation power scheme, so that our computer can always be on. The Presentation scheme is different from Always On scheme. Notebook computer users can specify an alternative power scheme that will take effect when the PC is running on battery power. EPA recommends setting computers to enter system standby or hibernate after 15 to 60 minutes of inactivity. To save even more, set monitors to enter sleep mode after 5 to 20 minutes of inactivity.

The lower the setting, the more energy you save. You might experiment with these settings to see how they affect your battery life, but from reports I've seen there isn't much extra battery time to be gained here. All rights reserved. Privacy Policy Design by Andreas Viklund.

Now, a Group Policy background refresh occurs. The background refresh changes the active power profile. And, as we previously covered, the last applied GPP Power item is the active power profile. When we last left our example computer, the active power profile was power settings C, which were created when the user changed their settings using the user interface.

Power item B becomes the active power profile because it is the last power profile that is made active. Makes sense right?
